Catholic Archbishop warns politicians

Speaking at a thanksgiving at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy,Apo-Abuja, the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja,
Cardinal John Onaiyekan, urged politicians to douse the tension in the polity.
The Archbishop said “Mr. President- Elect should see
himself as the president of Nigeria and not of All Progressives Congress.” Adding that the winner takes all
syndrome should be avoided.

In the same vein, the Senate President-Senator David Mark, said 'What the nation needs now is genuine reconciliation of all sections of the country and not
otherwise.
What must be paramount is the service, welfare and security of Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or
political differences.'

While urging politicians not to be desperate for power, the President of the senate asked the incoming administration
to make the restoration of peace in the North-Eastern part of Nigeria, a priority.
