Police say 48-year-old William Pergerson II, of Berrien Springs, died after crashing his plane at W.K. Kellogg Airport in Battle Creek, Michigan, according to a WSBT 22 news report. The cause of the crash is unclear.
"We were able to salvage my husband's logbook out of the smoke," said his wife, Sharon Pergerson. "Wow, all the
places that he had gone!"
Please pray for his family.
Pergerson, 48, was an experienced pilot who would fly his small plane to his various speaking engagements and church meetings, according to a long feature story published after his death in the Adventist Review .
Pergerson had just taken off from W.K. Kellogg Airport Aug. 27 to return to his Berrien Springs home when his plane began experiencing engine difficulty. He attempted to land the aircraft twice. On the second attempt, the plane crashed into a grass field off of one of the airport's runways, catching fire.
Pergerson had been in Battle Creek planning some meetings in the fall at Battle Creek Tabernacle church, according to the Adventist Review.
"I'm not sure I know anybody with his skill set of getting decisions and also being so strong on the gospel of Christ," Rob Benardo, pastor of Battle Creek Tabernacle, told the Adventist Review.
Pergerson's pilot logbook, which kept record of his many trips to churches across North America, survived the crash.
