The Islamic State has reportedly abducted about 250 Christians from the province of Homs, Syria.
According to Christian Today, the abducted Christians were from the Syriac Orthodox or Syriac Catholic churches.
The abductions happened this week during fighting between ISIS militants and government soldiers in
Al Quaryatayn, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The abduction included 45 women, 19 children and 11 families, the SOHR said. Christian Today reports that the Christians were chosen by name from ISIS lists.
The founder of A Demand for Action, Nurio Kino, said relatives of the captives haven’t been able to contact them.
"It's like living in this horrifying drama that never ends," he said. "People are completely afraid.
“It [an ISIS attack] always happens so suddenly and the Church is never prepared,” he added. “People are running around searching for their loved ones, and children...these are innocent people, not part of this war.”
In the fighting at Al Quaryatayn, about 1,500 people fled to the Archdiocese of Homs, Hama and Environs.
In another attack this week, this time at Hawareen village, another 1,500 fled the conflict to find shelter at the archdiocese.
"We received those displaced...and gave them the basic and essential needs because they went out of their houses without taking anything with them neither clothes nor properties; so we are working on providing them with clothing, housing, and medication," an archdiocese bishop wrote in a letter to human rights groups and churches.
