Bringing Heaven to Earth Through Agreement

What is the prayer of agreement? It is more than simply clasping hands and saying, "Brother, let's agree on this together."

The prayer of agreement is more than what we simply verbalize. It has to do with our heart's attitude. We must first agree with God, and His command to love one another. Once we have genuinely aligned ourselves with His heart as expressed in the first and second commandments, we will find ourselves ready to pray together in accordance with His will, resulting in heaven coming into agreement with earth.

Key Scriptures for Coming into Agreement
"Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on
earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are assembled in My name, there I am in their midst" (Matt. 18:18-20, MEV).

The prayer of agreement is the "Orchestra of God," finely tuned and playing in harmony together. It involves building relationships together. Prayer is a natural by-product of believers united together in Christ.

" ... for whoever is born of God overcomes the world, and the victory that overcomes the world is our faith " (1 John 5:4, MEV).
Whatever is born of God will be tested. Whatever is born of God will overcome.

Realize it says that it is "our" faith—not just "my" faith. This shows the value and priority of developing prayer partners and or a committed community of prayer.
Being Built Together in Unity with Prayer
"They continued steadfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers " (Acts 2:42, MEV).
Ephesians 6:18 also exhorts us to, "Pray in the Spirit always with all kinds of prayer and supplication. To that end be alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints " (MEV).

We find that in the effective ongoing ministry of prayer there are many different biblical expressions. Just as there is a great diversity of athletic sports, games and activities, so it is with prayer.

In athletics, there are different rules that apply to each corresponding game. Likewise, in the ministry of intercession, there are different rules, guidelines, and ways of "scoring," depending on which "type" of intercession or prayer you are engaged in.

Communication Is a Vital Key
Communication in relationship is a necessary and vital key in silencing the lies and the accusations of the enemy. Remember, ... the little foxes ... spoil the vineyards ... (Song of Songs 2:15, MEV).

Though, as intercessors we want to keep our primary focus vertical, working on the horizontal skills of ethical, clean communications becomes a must in developing true long-term agreements.

The Necessity of Cleansing in Our Relationships
In John 14:30, referring to Satan, Jesus says, " ... he has no power over Me" (MEV).
Can we say the same? Difficulties, mistakes, failures, hurts and offenses happen in each of our lives. We must learn the lessons of receiving and giving forgiveness and compassion, the art of confrontation unto reconciliation, and the knowledge that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin (1 John 1:9).

Some Key Steps for Being Built Together
Consecration
Dedication
Centering in Christ—not just assignments
Believing in one another
Covering each other in love
Taming the tongue
The compassionate art of confronting
Walking in loyalty
Closing Exhortation
Learning to pray in agreement, based on Matthew 18, is not some kind of methodological activity, which by saying it, you have accomplished it. The first person with whom we must come into agreement is God Himself. This is of utmost importance. When we set aside our prejudices and preconceived ideas, we will be candidates for Prayers that Strike the Mark.

Praying in agreement starts with you and me being close to the very heart of Christ. Our agreement is something more than what we simply verbalize. It has to do with our heart's attitude. Do we love Jesus and one another?

Jesus thinks so kindly and fondly of His people. God has bought you through Jesus. We need to agree with God concerning how He sees those with whom He has joined us. If you learn to agree with Him, your agenda, motivation and even assignments will change.

Agreement will have its reward.
If we are indeed in agreement, we will pray in one accord. Then we will pray with the Acts 4 dynamic—together in one place—joined and in agreement.  As we do this even the very place we are praying will be shaken for God's glory.
Learning to pray in agreement is learning to pray in God's will. If our minds are transformed, we will discover the perfect will of God (Romans 12:2) and out of our hearts will flow forth prayers where heaven and earth agree together. Remember, where two or more harmonize and agree—anything can happen!
